Referring to the four great beauties of ancient China, most of us can certainly list them, including: Tay Thi, Diao Chan, Duong Ngoc Hoan (Duong Quy Phi) and Vuong Chieu Quan.
Of course, among these beauties, Duong Ngoc Hoan is known as the plump favorite concubine of Emperor Huyen Tong Ly Long Co.
Duong Ngoc Hoan was originally the wife of Tho King Ly Mao, son of Duong Huyen Tong.
The emperor immediately implemented a plan to steal his daughter-in-law and arrange another marriage for his son.
In the 7th month of the 4th year of Thien Bao (i.e. 745), Tho King Ly Mao became friends with Vi Chieu Huan’s daughter, who became Tho King’s concubine.
In August of the same year, the Emperor appointed Duong Ngoc Hoan as a noble concubine. She became the concubine with the highest status in the palace and also the second mother of Tho King.
Concubine Duong Quy has a relatively chubby body, but according to the aesthetic standards of the Tang Dynasty, she is the number one beauty.
It is rare to find information about Concubine Duong Quy in historical documents, however, in a historical book, it was recorded: She was about 1m64 tall, weighed up to 68kg and had a truly beautiful appearance.
She is described as a peerless beauty, not only stunningly beautiful but also able to sing and dance.
Duong Quy Phi has a round face.
The above verses have contributed to helping the image of Duong Quy Phi’s beauty be passed down for more than a thousand years.
Emperor Xuan Tong, when he was 60 years old or older, felt like holding Concubine Duong Quy was very much like holding a child.
Because her skin is as smooth as a baby’s skin and is especially fragile.
In the book `Khai Nguyen Thien Bao Di Su` it is recorded: Concubine Duong Quy in the summer months would wear very light and thin clothes, and let her maid fan her continuously.
Yet she still feels very hot.
Every winter, the Vi Ha river in Bac Giao and Truong An is covered with a thick layer of ice.
The bottom of this tunnel is covered with a thick layer of grass, ice blocks are neatly arranged on it, and the tunnel door is sealed.
In the summer, they just need to open the cellar door, take out the ice and carve it into many different shapes like phoenixes.
In addition, Duong Huyen Tong ordered people to build `cool tents` with high roofs because of Concubine Duong Quy.
The emperor will then invite famous artists in the city to sing for his beloved concubine.
However, this `cool tent` cannot be occupied at night and ice blocks are not always placed there.
Duong Quy Phi thought of another way to cool down.
